Role Summary:

Orchestration Engineer will be expected to help gather functional requirements for customers, plan and implement solutions with a cloud-first approach, and be the technical point of contact for subject matter expertise within their area of responsibility.

The area of responsibility for this specific posting is for an engineer who can demonstrate knowledge and experience deploying Cloud resources using tools such as Terraform, Jenkins, and Ansible. This individual will be on SCRUM teams, report progress in daily standups, and escalate blockers.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Own, maintain, and extend logging and monitoring tools to improve observability, such as Datadog and Splunk.

  • Ability to analyze and resolve multiple complex problems

  • Produce high-quality, properly functioning deliverables

  • Independently own a deliverable while interfacing with different teams across the university

  • Provide a post-mortem or root cause analysis to stakeholders

  • Participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation, weekends and holidays as needed. - after hours work to cover maintenance windows.

  • Constructively present, discuss and debate alternatives

  • Take shared ownership of the product or service

  • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing

  • Conceptualize diagrams and processes

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology or closely related field AND six (6) years experience in server/network administration; virtual network; server security administration, OR, any equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

  • Evidence of a M.S. in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems

  • Evidence of being a team lead or experience mentoring peers

  • Working experience with configuration management tools in Linux on AWS/Azure/GCP (Ansible, Powershell DSC, etc.)

  • Experience with IT practices such as: Agile/Scrum, CI/CD, ITIL, peer-reviews, continuous improvement, etc.

  • Experienced with Security Group management, database configuration, routing, S3, Lambda, and other micro services across cloud platforms.

  • Jira/Confluence experience

  • Evidence of AWS / Azure / GCP Certifications

  • Terraform experience

  • Experience in Scripting/Automation to reduce repetitive tasks (Jenkins, Ansible, server deployments, application deployments)

  • Evidence of effective written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to model empathy, compassion and emotional intelligence
